This new 35,290 square-meter terminal specifically designed and built to suit the low cost carrier business model that only requires very basic and simple terminal infrastructure and amenities. Amenities such as aerobridges, extended physical structures and design in the passenger terminal building was cuts back in order to decrease the landing fees, handling fees and airport taxes effectively.
For that reason, the terminal itself serve very basic amenities and no transfer facility to the main terminal. Passengers who need to make transfers have to clear immigration, collect their luggage, custom clearance and make their way to the main terminal and rechecking with the respective airline.
The actual location of LCCT Airport is located on the opposite side of the apron from the main terminal, which is near to the air cargo area. By road, it is about 20KM from the main terminal. The existing LCCT Airport however is just a temporary solution for the increasing demand of the low-fares airline passengers, where the Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad has plans to build a permanent LCC terminal which can accommodate 30 million travelers annually.
